Let the record show, I meant to say “Scorcher” when I actually referred to the character as “Shocker”.
Really enjoyed all the character arcs going on and differing points of view pointed out by the podcast.
Overall loved the episode with only two cringes: 1. Maggie Sawyer jurisdictional conflict… it’s… just… soooo… cliche. Redeemed by the dive bar. 2. President Marsdin alien reveal. Not because it wasn’t provoking, but because I immediately thought, “Ack, they wrote a backdoor to writing Lynda Carter out of future appearances!” (If she’s able to disguise her alien self, there’s no requirement that the same character return played by Carter. /sob)
Love that they’re continuing to build on the alien questions, I’m expecting it to deliver as the series progresses. I kinda had the same reaction to Kara frying Lena’s prototype. I guess it’s because Lena’s rich and a Luthor most shrug. Imagine, instead, if the prototype was from a garage-inventor who bet his family’s house and savings on this innovation… only to be sabotaged!
Reminds me of the scene in Birthright… “I put months into this… I used meteorites to calibrate it to detect anything with a molecular pattern not of this Earth.” It pings on Clark and Lex destroys it in a fit of tears crying, “Stupid and worthless!”
I Will have to come back again when my course load lets up – nereethelvss I am getting your Rss feed so i can go through your internet site offline. Cheers.
I hadn’t even thought about the possibility that if the President is either an alien or metahuman who can shapeshift, that might mean Lynda Carter wouldn’t need to be around in the future. I hope that’s not the case, though. I’d love to see her come back and possibly play a baddie.
You nailed why I felt bad for Lena. You’re absolutely right that if she was poor and that device was her way to provide for her family, it would be a totally different situation.
