IRT the youngster being against overt feminism in Supergirl… I have to wonder if she has the same reaction to over misogyny. Do they shut of Game of Thrones, Mad Men, etc when they paint picture of “it’s a man’s world”?
Even if Supergirl wasn’t overt about it sometimes, it will be inherently feminist as long it focuses on a strong female lead.
I find it sad that after the the scores of years we’re women were marginalized that we now take offense to see a show that doesn’t.
I don’t think anyone’s “offended” by Supergirl’s overt feminism – it’s more a question of nuanced writing vs simplistic writing. You can get a feminist point across powerfully without dialogue that is on-the-nose or hitting people over the head with a point. We LOVE the fact that Supergirl is feminist. We just think it can be handled better. With regard to Mad Men or Game of Thrones – of course they don’t stop those shows when they show misogyny…and no one is suggesting anyone shut off Supergirl either for its feminism! 🙂 Just because one likes a show doesn’t mean one can never criticize how its done or want it to be better.
And believe me – PLENTY of people have criticized Game of Thrones!
