TV Line reports Supergirl has cast Laurie Metcalf as Winn Schott’s (Jeremy Jordan) estranged mother. She will be in the 15th episode of Season 3, airing sometime in 2018. Hopefully, this family reunion will go more smoothly than when Winn’s father, the villainous Toyman, showed up in season 1.
The casting news came out in a Vanity Fair feature on Metcalf, where she says she became interested in the role “so her youngest child can meet her idol Melissa Benoist.”
Metcalf is best known to television viewers for playing Jackie Harris in Roseanne, which ran from 1988 to 1997. She won three Emmys for the role and will be in ABC’s 2018 revival of the show. Metcalf has also been on HBO’s Getting On, as well as appearing multiple times on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory as Sheldon Cooper’s mother.
In other news, the show recently cast Jesse Rath as DC hero Brainiac 5 from the Legion of Super-Heroes. The CW also recently released the official synopsis for the big Crisis on Earth-X crossover which will air later this month.
