We hope our merch recommendations help, and Teresa promises to keep her potty mouth in check so that you and your daughter can listen to Supergirl Radio together! Though she’ll probably let the word “douchebag” slip every now and again. Be warned. 😉

I watched Supergirl (the movie) years ago as a kid. Got the DVD today. Seems to be a big fuss about kissing in the movie (and on the text of the DVD cover). There’s been a long history in the comics (and I think the movies) showing that Kryptonians aren’t the warmest people. Man of Steel takes it further by saying that Kal-El is the first “natural born” child in generations. All the other children are basically test tube babies. I think that’s why Kara doesn’t know anything about physical love (kissing, etc.). Also, Jor-El knew his son was going to get superpowers on Earth, presumably because he had been watching the planet for a while and Argo City was probably doing the same thing.
Great episode! One comment from a long-time Trekkie, though: it’s not so far out of left field that the producers would have approached Robert Wise to direct “Supergirl.” After all, in addition to “The Sound of Music” and “West Side Story,” he was also no stranger to sci-fi, having directed “The Day the Earth Stood Still” and “Star Trek: The Motion Picture.”
I confess I have not watched “Supergirl” since 1986 or so. I had a friend over to spend the night and this was the movie we rented from the video store (oh, back in the day…) I didn’t think it was “all that,” but my friend was entranced, and watched it over and over and over… Kind of put a damper on the weekend; he didn’t want to do anything but rewatch “Supergirl.” I suppose it has been long enough now that I should give it another chance!
