V sent Supergirl Radio an email to share some thoughts about the Supergirl Season 6 premiere titled “Rebirth”!

Wow, what a Season 5 Finale! ‘Cos let’s be real, that’s what we were watching, right? I’m going to have to watch again to catch everything as it was a LOT, but thoughts from me:
・Brainy & Nia’s story was cute and I’m glad that resolution isn’t being dragged out over a few episodes.
・Lena punching Lex? What more needs to be said?
・Lena finally relenting to Kara’s POV regarding the secret identity…even though she confessed only to Alex and J’onn, it was a big moment for her to let go of her ego.
・Alex becoming Sentinel…I mean, sure. Go for it, I guess. Earlier in the episode (when Lena pressed the Supergirl button), I did notice the blank space ready for her new symbol, so I assumed something was going to happen.
To be honest, this whole “Alex being a Superhero” thing feels a little flat to me. She was Bad Ass Agent Danvers™️ from the pilot episode, so I don’t know why she needs a special costume with pseudo-powers and gimmicks and stuff now. It makes it seem a little tacky in my opinion. Alex is Alex – a supercool and hot agent vigilante. She doesn’t need all the extra accoutrement. I guess it helps her visually fit in more during the group shots, so I’ll concede to that. Just kind of annoying the show feels the need to develop her aesthetically instead of by writing a decent character progression or story.
・Lillian FINALLY speaking up for Lena to Lex! SHE DOES LOVE HER! After all this time it was so good to finally get this moment from Lillian 🖤
・M’gann and J’onn and their whole sync-up routine. Hot take, but I’m kinda sick of this storyline. They have been through this whole thing at least twice before this episode so I don’t know how much more you could’ve been hiding from her, J’onn. Get your act together. But seriously, the writers really need to either move on or do something with that storyline because it’s getting dull at this point.
・Andrea and William. Could’ve done without these two entirely, to be honest, but I guess their stories needed wrapping up and they did set up WTF is going on with CatCo for the rest of Season 6.
・The Lena Luthor Protocol? Excuse me? I was really wondering how they were going to get Kara out of there so that little Sun Robot (let’s call them Hope 2.0) was great! It always has to be Lena that saves Kara and I am HERE for it.
・Kara being Lena’s “Person” – implied rather than specifically stated, but if we ignore the blazing Supercorp theme running through this part of the episode, those are some strong Meredith/Christina (Grey’s Anatomy) vibes and I am here for all this deliciously painful pining and angst.
And finally, THE BIG ONE:
・Kara telling Lena to use Myriad. That moment was so poignant and emotional. Even with how hectic the episode seemed with everything the writers tried to fit in and how chaotic everything was this episode, Katie and Melissa still managed to absolutely nail how delicate and important that moment was *cries in Supercorp*.
I wish I’d watched the end of Season 5 again before diving into Season 6 because I absolutely was lost for the first few minutes. Perhaps they should’ve actually just listed this episode as the Season 5 finale – even if they did have to air it a year later than planned. It would surely make much more sense for the story to do it that way. Or even Season 6 Episode 0?
All in all, a really enjoyable watch and I’m very much looking forward to really getting into the new season next week.
