   Great show!
   I don’t think I’ve ever rewatched this episode because I remember being grossed out by the villain… I also remember Ma Kent having to tell Kara to “be nice” to the comic book nerd making me dislike her a little for that (this was 15 years ago, I’ve long let that go!). I definitely owe it a rewatch!

   I didn’t remember Kara referring to the Kent’s pastor which is really interesting because the DCAU barely ever touched religion, but now that they seemed to be associating big-tent-revivals with brain-sucking-lack-of-individuality it was important to show the other side of the coin. I have a vague memory of a commentary or a podcast indicating that the parallel was an intentional commentary on religion which would make me bristle too… but it probably isn’t fair for me to say without clearly recalling where I heard it (maybe Dini on Fatman?).

   It’s definitely interesting that Supergirl tends to tackle faith more than most heroes and it was a big part of a major (controversial) arc for the Matrix Supergirl. Timm got to tackle that with his recent “Gods and Monsters” Superman comic. I like that Supergirl (and alternate universes) can venture into places and topics that Superman and company usually can’t go as easily.

     I could see this story being an intentional commentary on religion which I find to be an unfair generalization.

     That’s true! Supergirl does delve into issues of faith more than most characters and I like your point about how she can tackle some things that maybe Superman can’t.

   This is a bad episode to watch when you’re feeling sick to your stomach, which I unfortunately was when I saw it for the first time.
