Supergirl Renewed For Season 5

It was only a matter of time, but the Girl of Steel’s story is not ending anytime soon as The CW officially renewed Supergirl for a fifth season which will air in the 2019-2020 TV season!

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC character Kara Zor-El, (Melissa Benoist). Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton and was sent to Earth where she was raised by a foster family. Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later, Kara was living in National City and still concealing her powers, when a plane crash threatened Alex’s life and Kara took to the sky to save her. Now, Kara balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with her work for the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government organization whose mission is to keep National City – and the Earth – safe from sinister threats. As Kara struggles to navigate her relationships and her burgeoning life as a reporter, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl. Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, SUPERGIRL is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“The Flash,” “Arrow”), Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash”), Robert Rovner (“Private Practice,” “Dallas”) and Jessica Queller (“Gilmore Girls,” “Gossip Girl,” “Felicity”).

Supergirl has certainly has its ups and downs, but even through some very confusing and convoluting story lines, the show barely makes it through (I’m gay and even the Alex/Maggie tangential story almost put me to sleep with each irritating installment). Keep the story lines more clear and concise. Also, the addition of the Legion members is exciting, even though there are several major character errors. #1: Saturn Girl and Mon-El NEVER had anything going between them; Imra always had it in for Lightning Lad (Garth) from the very first appearance (Adventure, #247). Also, while Imra & Mon-El had almost a non-existent on-screen electricity between them – no matter how hard they tried. Supergirl also never had anything for Mon-el but friendship – though she and Brainiac 5 did – over the years – begin to have a relationship begin to show itself. Also, Supergirl NEVER needed any breathing apparatus to breathe in outer space; she, like Superman and Mon-E could survive in space with no problem. (She was warned a few times to remember that “..you can’t breathe in space,” though even if that were true (which it isn’t), don’t we think that she is intelligent enough to know that she couldn’t breathe in the vacuum in space? The Legion flight rings did, however, provide protection for all the other legionnaires in addition to communication and flight. While Mon-El’s costume was about a “9” in being accurate to the original costume he wore back in his first comic book appearances. For long-time LSH fans, have original costumes (the dark colors do work for me, however), it does make the characters really come to life. Having all of the legionnaires dressed in the “armed services-look and the same “universal costume” standard issue uniforms simply makes them seem more like the cinematic versions of the “Fantastic Four,” and the “X-Men.” The visual interest, personality, and creativity of the traditional Legionnaires costumes just – to me – makes a great deal more of a personal statement for the Legionnaires in regard to their personalities overall. PLEASE do not continue this misguided approach to make them all wear the same dark, colorless, outfit with perhaps the only difference between each of the costumes is a small, hard-to-read and understand indicia placed near their upper left clavicular area to indicate whom is whom (and as demonstrated thus far, are almost impossible to read and decipher). I own almost the entire LSH appearances beginning with #247 back in the late-1960’s through the 2000’s – at what point, I was no longer reading them but just wanting to continue my collecting of the books – and I grew more and more to really hate the very stylized (more early morning, Saturday morning television renderings of the legionnaires). Let’s get back to some real renderings and drawings of the characters as “real” people, not just silly-ass looking “cartoons.”

It strongly feels as though you could really use some artistic overview planning, guidance, and instruction for not only any new comics in the next few years, but – if you want to keep up with the Marvel Universes – you need a real “serious Legion over-view.” Surprisingly enough, this would be something I could provide for you I’m serious and would love to discuss with your staff on how to craft and cross-relate the important Legion cross-over histories and on-going new adventures with the rest of the DC characters (as done so well by Marvel), I’ve always been a DC’er and could really provide a great deal of expertise and value to your on-going and future planning.

I realize that my request is a non-traditional request, but so is the work of stepping up and out to create a plausible, realistic, exciting, and ticket-selling universe for these incredible characters. DC has some major catching up to do in their film fulfillment outreach. Wonder Woman was GREAT! And, I liked the JUSTIC LEAGUE as well, and while I know you have many others in development, you are will have to reach out (with the ability of Elastic Lad) to be able to make a considerable impact into the Marvel Universe which has a very strong lead).

Sorry for the length of this note, but I also wasn’t sure as how to get this to someone on your staff who will have the ability to get this note to someone in charge and could be interested and excited enough to make sure this letter gets to just the right person(s).

I challenge you to bet back to me to discuss. Thank you. Russell Scott, 407.701.4958 and [email protected]. Russell Scott
