Sam wrote in with some thoughts about how J’onn handled Myr’nn’s psychic episode at the D.E.O. and the responsibility he has to his agents.
I thought everyone was a bit too forgiving of Myr’nn at the end of “In Search of Lost Time”. I get the people close to J’onn and Myr’nn like Kara, Alex, and Winn being all open-minded and understanding. But, what about the other D.E.O. agents who don’t have any established relationship with Myr’nn? In real life, I think an incident like this would create distrust among, at least, some of the D.E.O. agents towards J’onn. It’s lucky that nobody was killed or seriously injured. J’onn’s hesitation to restrain his father nearly caused a catastrophe. I don’t blame Myr’nn at all, but I do have issues with J’onn. I understand him, but I also think he neglected his duty. As the head of the D.E.O., he has a responsibility to see to the safety and well-being of his agents and he failed to do that. D.E.O. agents risk their lives and put their trust in their leader every day and he let them down. If the serialized aspect of this show was better written, I would expect future fallout from this. As it is, D.E.O. agents are just there to be cannon fodder and not much more.A better show would have established a cast of five to ten recurring D.E.O. agents who are given a little bit of backstory and are shown to have a friendly relationship with the core cast, but aren’t part of Kara’s core friendship group. Show us that Kara knows who these people are and that they aren’t just faceless nobodies.– Sam
