Listener Email: Like I Was In A Blender

Gina wrote Supergirl Radio email to share some of her thoughts about the Supergirl Season 6 premiere titled “Rebirth”!

Hey, Supergirl Radio!
So this is the beginning of the end for our beloved show. I know it officially won’t end until probably like July or August, but it’s still bittersweet.
I came in watching the first like 10 minutes of this episode and felt like I was thrown around like I was in a blender trying to understand what people were saying and what was going on, in general. I had all intentions of listening to your Season 5 finale recap before going into this episode, but time got away from me.
This episode really shows the momentum and tone of what a season finale is and what a season premiere is. Like I had to remember where characters’ mindsets were because there isn’t anything leading up to it in the episode.
I liked the episode more than I didn’t. It’s probably mostly loss of context, but also the fact that I wasn’t a big fan of Season 5. I forgot what Lex’s whole end goal was and what exactly injecting “Leviathan” inside of him would do. Is that what happened?
The one thing that really bothered me was Alex now being this “superhero”. I thought it would be sort of temporary, but now that J’onn gave her a superhero name, it’s more permanent than I like. The best thing about Alex Danvers is being the “normal” one between the sisters, having to try and fight alongside Kara without having powers, and using her wits and weapons to do that. I didn’t mind her having that alien weapon but to have a whole separate identity and a suit just crosses that line for me. Maybe it’s because of how thrown into the episode I felt, but I almost couldn’t take her seriously.
I can maybe forgive the change of events with her if they take this separation of the Danvers Sisters to heart and play it out with true emotion. They missed so many different opportunities in the last season that I’m so hesitant they’ll know to take it there. But, if this is the last season and the writers have said the delay has given them time to think about the fact this is the final season, I am hoping they’ve heard the overwhelming choir of fans who want more Danvers Sisters moments.
I loved seeing the Luthors together, especially Lillian. I also love how Lillian tried to protect both of her children.. from each other.
