Listener Email: Lena and Supergirl Team Up

Gina sent in some thoughts on the Supergirl season four episode titled “Crime and Punishment”!

Hey, Supergirl Radio!

Another strong episode for the season! Still not as strong as the Red Daughter episode, but the back half of this season has been really impressive, considering how the first half wasn’t sparking as much joy as this show usually does.

One of my favorite things about the episode was how you actually saw Supergirl in action. I feel like it’s been awhile since we’ve seen her be an action hero. I know her biggest “superpower” is not using her actual abilities and using words to finish the job. But sometimes, I just need to see a good hallway fight of her swatting prisoners like flies or fighting Metallo!Otis in a prison gym or dishing out that thunderclap. It’s just good fun and even though she might not have felt like it this season, it shows everyone she is still a badass.

I’m continuing to love the Trinity of Alex, Supergirl, and Lena. The episode definitely focused on the Lena and Supergirl team up and it was nice to see how far they’ve come in trusting and caring for the well-being of each other. (I mean, I know Kara always has, but you know…) The episode showed the strengths of each and how together, they can get to answers they need into what Lex is up to and how he was able to frame Supergirl so well.

One thing that’s unfortunately coming out of this back half, however, is that the darn mindwipe has been happening for so long that I’m almost getting used to Alex acting the way she does towards Supergirl. And, I don’t want to feel that!

So James looks like he’s gaining powers, huh? UGH. I really was going to commend how the writers are dealing with his PTSD and honestly, I would rather he deal with JUST that because that’s hard enough. And a very human situation. But no, they did exactly what I feared they do. But I guess it’s just keeping with what happened with Lex, too, I suppose.
